Fourteen years of (admittedly imperfect) vegetarianism have passed. And yet, the meal itself was so uneventful I forgot to even write about it. Jason made bowtie pasta (farfalle? what are we, the Rockefellers?) with a garden veggie tomato sauce. I ate about a spoonful of ground beef.
Saturday night he made steak. And while it wasn't bad, I have come to a conclusion: I don't really like beef.
However, I have been craving roasted chicken. I read that it's easy to do in a crock-pot. Must find local chicken.

easy and tasty baked chicken recipe:
set oven on 350 degrees. While it's warming up, place pieces of chicken in a shallow baking dish, add about 1/4 inch of water. dot the chicken with butter, sprinkle with salt, pepper, and paprika. Bake for an hour.

You know, I tried an unintentional experiment the other day, I happened to have some organic, free range chicken eggs that I got from the Inwood Farmers market and some supermarket eggs. I was making hard-boiled eggs which I always make in fours, and I was just finishing the organic ones, so I had to make two organic and two supermarket. There was a HUGE difference! First in the smell. When you cracked the supermarket eggs open, they had a much stronger smell sulfur which I’d always associated with eggs. The organics had a different, more pleasant milder smell, they actually smelled a bit like chicken. The taste was the same too, the organics had a much more pleasant taste where the others had a stronger, harsher taste. I guess it’s true, you can taste where you food comes from, but I was really surprised that there was so big of a difference. I hope the same goes for chicken that humanely raised, I'm definately going to find out.
